My Story

Born on the Water

I grew up fishing local lakes and rivers with my dad. We started with a $200 tin boat he bought off Facebook, which was in no shape for any adventures. After some work and of course, new fishing rods, we finally started to figure out what we were doing. It only took one fish on the end of my line for me to get hooked for life. Eventually, I began fly fishing and was fortunate enough to have a high school class that taught me everything that shape me today, including basic fly fishing, the importance of conservation, and finally respect. Little did I know the world of fly fishing was so addictive, from 5-weight rods for trout to 8-weight rods for salmon, and 7-weight rods for steelhead.I thought, 'That’s gotta be it, right? There can’t be anything else I could love more than this?'

Wrong. I ended up picking up a Spey rod in 10th grade, and everything changed. That 50ft seam across the river wasn’t too far anymore, and all of a sudden, fishing wasn’t just about the fish. To feed the addiction, I decided to start guiding on the Skeena, and I couldn’t get enough. The feeling of turning someone’s cast from 20ft to 40ft and getting them on their first fish made me realize this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. That's why West Coast Drift and Fly was born. As an owner-operator, every river fished, fly tied, and line tested comes from my own experience. I can’t wait to pass this experience on to you and, hopefully, a piece of the addiction.
